In 2009, Christine Allison had the idea of forming a community choir to perform “Sing for the Cure” in honor of Women’s Breast Cancer Awareness. The call went out through church and community choirs, area public news releases, radio announcements, and interviews with local news publications. Subsequently, 110 singers registered to begin practice in early June of 2009. By September that year, 103 singers and a 53-piece volunteer orchestra performed to a sold-out house at Umstattd Hall in Canton, Ohio. This emotion-filled performance left singers and audience alike moved to tears, filled with hope and inspired to act. After this extraordinary experience, the singers decided to continue singing together, and 80 of the initial 103 formed what is now known as A Chorus for a Cause. (ACFAC).

Fast forward 9 months, Christine received a phone call, inviting A Chorus For A Cause to perform
"Sing for the Cure" at Carnegie Hall in New York City. ACFAC would join the two choruses from Dallas, Texas, who originally commissioned the piece, and a few other choirs for this performance. Imagine Christine's surprise and the chorus's excitement. ACFAC journeyed to NYC in May of 2010 for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. What a proud moment it was!

The goal of ACFAC is to raise awareness of local causes through concerts and to give the causes a sizeable portion of the concert proceeds. ACFAC would be comprised of non-auditioned people who love to sing, are willing to learn a variety of music, and can carry a tune. The Director wanted this group to be for the common singer who maybe didn't have the confidence to audition for another group. She wants this to be a chorus for all who can and want to sing.

It appears our goal is well on its way.
Over the last 15 years, ACFAC has donated over $137,000 to charities in our area, thanks to a generous community of caring attendees.
A Chorus For A Cause continues to attract singers, maintaining a range of 70-90 per season.
The chorus performs three concerts a year - Fall, Christmas/Holiday, and Spring. And yes, we practice in the summer too. We tried not to sing one summer, but the singers and Christine missed it so much that we are back to summer singing in preparation for the fall concert.

We are thrilled to share that we have been invited to sing in Normandy, France, in June 2026 for the
D-Day Ceremonies. Each singer will pay their own way, and we couldn't be more excited.
We wish every singer could go.

Why We Sing
A Chorus For A Cause is a group of musicians making a difference by bringing compelling music and enjoyment to our community while supporting causes that make our world a better place.
Our first project, in September 2009, raised over $12,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. More than 100 singers participated and over 1,200 were in attendance.
To date, ACFAC has donated over $137,000 to charities in our area.
To keep with our mission, we continue to reach out to the community as we make beautiful music together to benefit a cause.
